Questions & Answers

What is the ECNL-RL?

  • ECNL-RL stands for Elite Clubs National League Regional League and was founded to improve the daily environment for youth soccer players through a collaborative club-based development program featuring competition, player identification, and coaching and club development platforms. The ECNL continues to be the most progressive and innovative development platform in the country while also being the home for the very best youth players in the United States

Are there only two Iowa based clubs with ECNL membership in 2022/23?

  • Yes. The ECNL has finalized membership decisions for next season and FC United is one of two clubs in Iowa, and the only club in Eastern Iowa.

Why did we choose the ECNL-RL over the ECNL?

Over 300 coaches attend these events, held at outstanding facilities, and they are regarded in college coaching circles as must attend weekends. Challenge matches typically draw well over 30 coaches per game. Events are held in Phenix, AZ, Sanford, FL, Davis, CA, and many more locations.

Do you allow multi-sport athletes at your club?

  • Yes, we have many multisport athletes in our club. However, players are encouraged, and expected, to attend an alternate training session for consistent growth and development.

  • Players are expected to attend no less than 2 on-site training sessions each week, during focus portions of the season.

Will you play in any other leagues?

  • We will also compete in the Club Development League (CDL) for our U13-U19 (2012-2005) to give extra game opportunities. These games will be for the whole team, or to allow for playing opportunities for those not selected for the ECNL-RL rosters.

Where will CDL games be played?

The CDL games will be largely in eastern Iowa. CDL game geographic locations range from Waterloo to Bettendorf, including Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.

We may have one cross-over weekend with a couple of clubs from the central part of the state, however, that cross-over weekend of play is projected to be held here in eastern Iowa

How many CDL games will we play?

This may only play 2-4 games for teams/players competing in the ECNL, but 6-10 games for team/players competing only in the CDL.

U8-U12 compete in the Eastern Iowa Youth Soccer League (EIYSL) in the fall and spring. There are 4 playdates per fall & spring (mini seasons) and the team will play 2 games each play date. The EIYSL location switches between Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Waterloo, Dubuque, and Muscatine. Cedar Rapids is always one of the playdates each mini season.

On top of the league we participate in 2 to 3 tournaments per mini season. We do continue to train twice a week over the winter season, and participate in 4 winter indoor tournaments (no league games). In the winter 2 tournaments are in CR, one in IC and one in Waterloo.
